Hinckley, Allen & Snyder’s affordable housing practice consists of members of the Firm’s Tax, Real Estate, Corporate, Securities, and Construction Law Groups. The Firm's Tax and Real Estate Departments focus their expertise on tax credit, real estate, title, zoning and environmental issues arising in connection with affordable housing projects.

The Firm has worked on a national level with clients on publicly registered and privately offered projects including hotels, shopping centers, apartment complexes, office space, single family home developments and affordable housing projects.

Our affordable housing experience includes Section 8 projects and affordable housing projects structured to take advantage of the low income housing tax credit under Section 42 of the Internal Revenue Code. Our Real Estate attorneys are counsel to the developer, the investor, the syndicator or the lender in low-income housing tax credit projects resulting in equity investments in affordable housing by investors ranging from national pools to corporate, institutional and individual investors. We also have represented Rhode Island's state housing agency in connection with its equity funds organized for investment in affordable housing projects in Rhode Island.

We have extensive experience structuring projects to take advantage of multiple financing sources. We also represent bridge lenders to affordable housing projects in transactions secured by investor notes and other collateral. Our attorneys are committed to providing services in an expeditious and cost-effective manner through effective and efficient use of our legal talent and resources.
